The Knag family name, according to family lore and Webster's English Dictionary, means a knot as in a tree or a plank of wood. Webster's also says that it
can mean the prog of an antler.
This page is maintained by the descendants of Carl Stephen Knag, born in Norway. Of his eight known children, only Lydia Knag remained in Norway. The
rest are believed to have immigrated to the New York area some time between 1860 and 1910. We now live mostly in the New York, Connecticut, New Jersey
area, but also California, Texas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Missouri.
The other main Knag clan that resides in the United States are descendants of Jens Knag and his three
sons Chris, Hans, and Jess. Jens Knag immigrated from Denmark in the 1870's-1880's and settled in the Omaha, Nebraska area. He died in the early
1930's. The Chris and Hans Knag families still reside largely in Nebraska, and the the Jess Knag family resides largely in Ohio.
